making things!

this page is for all my miscellaneous projects that i don't know where else to put

october 15th, 2022: we got a noise complaint on homecoming not for partying, but for making spoons in my dorm

september 5th, 2022: got back to university and wanted to keep weaving, so i went on some morning walks and did it

august 5th, 2022: my friend made some tin holly leaves and i turned them into earrings. they make a wonderful jingly sound when they blow in the wind

august 4th, 2022: finished costume! my friend lent me his sword for the day. i based it off of this illustration of grace o’malley. in retrospect i should have invested in some better fabric (i was so hot omg), but the tablecloth was only $4, and the only other things i had to pay for were the border fabric and the pattern, so i kept costs low!

august 3rd, 2022: second part of my ren faire costume! this was the first actual sewing pattern i used and holy moly it was terrifying. i did a mock-up before using the tablecloth fabric i thrifted. super proud of how it turned out!

july 30th, 2022: this was the beginning of my renaissance faire costume. i went all in and made my costume for scratch for the first ren faire i went to. this shirt was made with both machine and hand sewing

july 16th, 2022: my second and better basket. for this one, i used a handle that wrapped around the bottom of the basket making it secure and strong

july 8th, 2022: my first basket! also made at my summer job. basket making is so awful at first when you’re up-setting the edges, then so much fun, then awful again doing the lashing around the rim

june 25th, 2022: i got to help out and paint a hole for a local radio station’s punk rock mini golf event. my dad made the structure of the hole and i painted the germfree adolescents album cover on it

june 1st, 2022: got to play around with some tinsmithing at my summer job! on the left are fish, leaves, a star, and a snuffer tray. on the right is a sander (used for shaking sand onto ink blots to absorb them) and a sconce

may 18th, 2022: my friend gifted me tons of fabric squares she was getting rid of. the extent of my sewing skills before this were circle skirts with elastic waistbands. i followed a pretty simple tutorial from rain country. the skirt is absolutely massive and heavy, but so much fun to wear

january 29th, 2022: i wouldn’t dare put this on the crochet page because it’s knitting. this was the first big knitting project i did and it ended up lopsided, but still pretty good i think

august 4th, 2021: bootleg bleach merch! i don’t have a picture of the first one i made of the clash logo, but here’s the dead milkmen

march 31st, 2021: one of the abandoned projects that i want to come back to one day. i was trying to make a kermit replica and i got as far as the head

september 7th, 2020: made my friend into a coraline doll too

september 3rd, 2020: I was obsessed with making these shrinky dink earrings for about a week

august 20th, 2020: capri sun backpack! i’m still obsessed with this one. if i ever do it again, i’ll pay a bit more attention to the lining, but i still love it

august 15th, 2020: i still really don’t know what this plant is, but my dad collected a bunch of these twisting twigs that i made some earrings and charms out of

august 7th, 2020: for some reason whenever i do any bookbinding, it’s always at 3am. i’ve only ever done open spine books like this, but they’re always fun

may 18th, 2020: obviously i made myself as a coraline doll

may 7th, 2020: i got super into pen palling for a while. my mom started me young with pen pals which i really appreciate. i started getting a little fancier with it and added some pressed flowers

may 5th, 2020: at the beginning of quarantine, i spent a few days writing letters to people to check in and send some love. i watercolored all the pages and sent little goodies along

april 22nd, 2020: my friend got me a book about crafting with cat fur for my birthday so i made a finger puppet of my cat with her fur

december 21st, 2018: during my 10th grade music class, we decided to record the songs we had been working on and toss them on cassettes to give out. they were pretty awful recordings and we were putting them on the tapes at school while we were working on our exams. we worked up until the last second and it was a lot of fun running around. we had different artists at school make the cover art and ended up with (i think) five different designs. the one here is the one i did.
